Does anyone know where I could buy a big oblong and a big triangular one of these please, cheaper than M & D?

    Re: Acrylic quilters/graders measures

You could try quilter's shops like http://www.cottonpatch.co.uk/ or Ebay but I don't think they are heavily discounted anywhere. There is a supplier of metric versions here

            Re: Quilting ruler

They're quite expensive and not essential - I just use a 6" metal ruler I bought on ebay for a few pounds.

I have a metric one and use it all the time when making roman blinds, valances etc. anywhere that I need accurate, level parallel lines. Also useful when making piping as it has a 45 degree line marked to cut on the cross (also other angles for patchwork).

                Re: Quilting ruler

I'm actually looking to buy a 6" x 24" quilting ruler and was wondering are there any makes better than others eg are any of the grid colours easier to see, are the acrylics different qualities, etc, would it be better to buy metric or is that a personal choice?

                  Re: Quilting ruler

I have just bought a June Tailor imperial one (JT730). I don't know how I've managed without it! Would recommend.

I have several imperial and metric and use each one daily - they are a must! You can buy them from John Lewis too.

                      Re: Quilting ruler

Thanks for replies, I have now ordered one from The Cotton Patch .

I phoned John Lewis in Glasgow but apparently they don't stock these rulers which I found a bit strange when they have nearly everything else

They do stock them, they are located in the craft dept / card making and needlework area, they probably call them something different. They are made by Fiskars.

Exactly what I thought Schuhby, I was sure they would have stocked them. I did say to the girl that they were known as quilting or patchwork rulers but it was the main switchboard operator I spoke to and she spoke to the department herself and wouldn't put me through. Oh well, they just lost a customer as I had been going to go to Glasgow to pick it up
