  • Pelmets for bay windows

Any hints or tips for dealing with this?

The least fussy could be a box pleated valance.

Using pelmet/buckram canvas how do others tackle corners. I once made a massive buckram pelmet for a bow window but never saw how it looked because the client installed it himself. Using plywood do you make in sections? Feedback appreciated.

If making in canvas ensure the joins of the fabric are at the angles and bend round. Secure these joins by stitching to secure.

when making wooden pelmets for bay windows i understand the idea about cutting the wood into sections to fit round bay, but would you cut the wood to the exact size or make it a little bit smaller for the fabric take up as it is wrapped around the back. if thats right how much do you allow, does that make sense?

            Thanks for your help

              Hi Irene,
I've never done one, but I would cut the wood to the exact size. The fabric wrapping, unless very thick, will just make it fit snugly.

                Thanks Pen

That makes sense, of all the window treatments when someone mentions a bay especially a flat pelmet i feel sick iv done a couple (only for my self) and been dissapointed that there are creases in the bends so i thought i would try it in wood next time

ANother option which is really a valance would be to make a box pleat valance positioning one pleat at the bends and returns. Its actually a valance but a flat one that would look more like a pelmet.

If using patterned fabric the pattern would dissapear at the pleats of course.

                      Hi Karen

That is a good idea as well would you use the canvas that everyone has been talking about?

I have not used the stuff. It might splay out at the pleats. Perhaps best made like a valance. The best thing would be to try out a sample
