Pinch pleat steaming

Hi i don't know if i made this technique up or if i was just lucky to stumble across it. When i have machine stitched my pocket line where a pinch pleat is going to be i hold my steam iron hovering above the pocket and project steam for a few seconds. This makes the buckram go floppy making it easyer to form the pleats, i crease them in place with my hands and when the fabric has cooled down the pleats are set in place easy!. Is it just me or does everybody do this?.

Buckram does soften when warm.
