This is an open box pleat, not easy to see there is a space between pleats.
    thanks

I like your honesty Irene about not liking the fabric.........
No not mine, the only part of the process i was involved in was making them, if i had measured for these i would have got the tails closer to the curtains, dont like the gap much.....

It does seem a shame that all the work that went in to the design of the valance is effectively hidden by the patterned fabric.

A very nice job, but I'm with the others....busy fabric does not show the valance off to its best. Is it a stiff top? If so, might have been better with contrast piping top and bottom, might have given the valance a bit of definition. Still, I am sure they are very well made.

I agree Enid, piping would have given it some definition, i would have definitley suggested it. This is work i did for Fabric warehouse, actually it was the last job i did for them before they went into administration....

I don't like the fabric much, either. If you moved the tieback hook further out it might get rid of the gap, as it looks as if it's pulling the curtain from both sides instead of just from the leading edge. Otherwise it's a lovely window, I really like doing things like that, and wish I'd get asked to do them more often.

With no disrespect to you, Sharon, your last post explains everything!!!!!

The one beside me near Reading has filled most of the front shop with bedding, cushion, towels, and other stuff.... fabrics are now relegated to the back showroom and there is nothing like the quantity that they used to hold....staff are not up to much either ...all new faces. Now the warehouse in Winchester is quite the opposite. Packed full of reasonable quality fabric, a huge selection to choose from, all well displayed and helpful staff. Is it a franchise now do you think? I know that this has come up on the forum before via reps and the odd curtain maker going for a looksee.

Ah ah ... I did not know that Fabric Warehouse had gone into administration. One of my reps used to frequent the one near you Enid and he has made no mention of them recently! I have to speak to him tomorrow about something so shall ask about the Winchester warehouse as this would also be on his "patch". Interesting. I agree Sharon, I don't like the fabric either but us humble curtain makers can only use what we are provided with and if our customers won't take our advice we are left with little choice but to sometimes work with Customer Own Fabric and do as we are told - although nine times out of ten we know better!!

As far as i know it isnt a franchise. I used to work at the local FW to me,in the store on a Saturday, and i did curtain making outwork for them too. It closed just before christmas 2007, along with 9 other stores.I then just did outwork for another FW in Solihull, then a couple of months ago that closed along with about 20 more. I think there is only about 10 left......

Re: Latest pic box pleat valance with tails

I have just googled fabric warehouse and they went into liquidation in May 2008. Most of the stores are closed and the remaining ones are to be sold.....that would explain the changes in the Woodley one. Its a big floor area and so far not filled by any means, in fact there is so much space it looks a bit odd. I used it for bits and bobs that I did not want to buy in bulk, but even those things are not available now. ??????/I wonder where all the customers went, as on a Saturday the place was so busy you could not move. Stuff was not very good though and some of the fabric was dreadful........what you get for 5.99 per metre.

I often buy threads there when I need one reel to match a job - going to miss it. I usually use Gutermann threads. Do you know anywhere else locally that sells them or something similar without going into central Reading Enid?

There is a dry cleaners in crowthorne at the station end that sells threads, that where I buy the odd reel, but thats a bit of a hike for you, especially with the petrol prices. I will trawl the shops in Wokingham, the flower shop used to stock cottons. Leave it with me,

As far as I know the flower/craft shop over the road from the PO in Wokingham (Flower Corner) stocks thread - but I think it is Drima not Gutermann.

Has our local Fabric Warehouse stopped selling thread (along with all the other things they no longer stock.............?) Last time I was there I noticed that paradoxically they had much less fabric and furnishing supplies, but were promoting a design service where they would do home visits to redesign your room for you.......not sure what they would then use to make what you decided on.......

According to the rep. I spoke to yesterday a company called CALVERA (not sure if that is correct spelling) bought out Fabric Warehouse but didn't keep all the shops open! I am really lucky here there are two shops that sell Gutermann 10 mins walk away - sorry that's no help to you though Jane! If possible though I try to order in advance as I have a Gutermann colour card and Price & Co stock it.
