They're absolutely lovely, such a clever idea. Smocking tape is useless,in my opinion, you've got a much better look using the pencil pleat.

      Lovely tidy bedroom, too...

Yes Irene, those are lovely! And to do it on a curved mount board is even more impressive!

            Hi Irene,

Absolutely beautiful! Did you opt for the shaped board to echo the top of the lovely wardrobe?

I've never done smocking but would love to give it a try at sometime. However, I don't think I'll be up to your standard for a long time to come. Well done you!

Beautiful, Irene. I agree about the smocking tape, although it is velcro friendly so you don't have to sew the loop tape on separately, I find it's not deep enough. I once did hand made smocks without tape....never again!

                  Thankyou everyone

                  Jules, pen, [email protected]

It really is quite easy once you get going Jules. Yes i did try to mirror the shape on the wardrobe, and the pelmet board is only a 5x1 board [email protected] and i got my husband to cut a curved shape out from another peice of wood for the top of board in the middle, shaping it and tapering both ends to nearlly nothing then just nailed it on from underneath does that make sense!! Pen the heading tape i used was velcro friendly which was better than sewing on loop tape because it gives the valance more elasticity.

I didn't realise you'd used tape Irene! I thought you'd hand smocked but what a good idea. Is there anyway you could email me a bigger picture so I can have a look at the smocking in more detail please?

                    I would really appreciate it!

Re: Curtains and hand crafted valance

Irene that is really gorgeous and sounds quite simple when u explained what u did tho a more intricate expanation of the smocking would be really helpful.

I copied the heading picture onto 'word' & enlarged it but am still unsure how u formed the smocking.

Re: Curtains and hand crafted valance

Irene has used a 3" pencil pleat header tape and smocked it as shown below - I'd assume interlining has been used to create a thick smocking look. Pull the tape and sew.

                          Hi Mairi

Thank you for your kind remarks. Philip has explained it perfectly Thanks Philip i dont know how to post yet so thanks again. From the two pics i did the top one, honeycomb and i did interline the valance it is silk so it would have been pretty flat now it looks nice and plush.
