  • Swags, Tails Interlined Curtains

Finally finished the curtains to go with the swags in my own home. Sorry the colour rep is not good. Fabric Sanderson Chrysanthemum - William Morris Interlined with 260g natural interlining. Swags and tails interlined with 200g. I did not interline trumpet as it made it too bulky. I was experimenting with proportions on this. The window is small and I took the swag much higher than normal. Usually it has to go under cornice but I still like it.

Used the Merrick and Day patterns (adjusted to fit) of course. Short tails for a change which I quite like and think they look delicate on tall windows as well.

Wow Karen , very nice work. I love the look you have achieved too. The curtains underneath , are they hand headed or pencil pleat and pleated to design? They look stunning, well done

Isnt it nice when we finally get the chance to make something for ourselves

Thank you. They are hand pleated and pleated by design. These curtains took 2 widths in each curtain to achieve this. Track is only 160cm. BUt of course had to trim off left and right sides. Cost a bit extra bit its worth it. Hand pleating is a bit of a luxury under swags but much easier to dress. Hand pleating with buckram versus tape nowadays I don't think there is much in it workwise.

I agree Karen...especially when it comes to hanging. I can spend ages drawing up cords whereas when pleats are already formed you just hook the curtains up and away you go not forgetting to stop for payment before you leave

By the way, your curtains are beautiful. I love symmetry...Do you think we should charge more for mundane pencil pleats which take almost as much time as pinch etc

I am not sure. I have not done tape curtains for a while.

I would proabably try to get the customer to go for a hand made heading even under a valance. Unless there was a job lot of cheaper curtains needed for a rental property or somthing. Even then if I was using the tape I would make a slight 3cm stand up heading if beloe a pole to stop them looking bog standard.
