  • Wallpaper - large brick/tile effect

    Hi,
I don't know if anyone can help me I have a costumer who is looking for a wallpaper for her very large hall, stairs and landing. She wants something that looks like stone work, or large brick (not the sort of brick you build houses from). Something that will give it a sort of Italian look (if I am making sense). It needs to be light in colour - sort of limestone I guess.

Has anyone come across anything like this - I have been looking for the last couple of days, but still not found anything. I am going up to Chelsea Harbour week after next for Design Week, so will continue looking whilst there.
    Thanks

    Hi Kat,

I haven't seen any wallpaper like this but have Kevin McCloud's Decorating Book, where he shows you how to get this effect through paint techniques. While I imagine it could be tedious on a large area, the sandstone blocks he emulates are quite large, making it less work than it might be.

However, if you can't find a ready-made paper it may be possible to commission one but, at a cost.

If I come across anything, I will let you know.

    Good luck in your search.

Yes you can get wallpaper like that. One of my neighbours has it. Personally I don't like it. One of the more top end nmanufactureres will sell it aong with wallpaper for faux panelling etc. Maybe try a search under trompe l'oeil wallpaper?

          Thanks Karen,
I did a search under trompe l'oeil wallpaper and found exactly what my client is after - though whether she is going to be willing to pay £225 a roll is another matter. But she is the sort od lady that probably will! This is what I have found http://www.ornamenta.co.uk/site/html/su ... ashlar.asp

A day Spa place in Cirencester has this on the walls - if I had it it would remind me of being there! Not that I go often - once a year if I'm lucky!
            Kindest Regards,
            Karen

You may advice her that this type of wallpaper is not on the vogue now.
