  • Piping cord for London Blinds

    Hi All

Finally getting round to making the London blinds I intended to start about a year ago, and have seen a picture of one which has a the pleats in a contrasting fabric, with piping in the seam between the two fabrics. It looks really nice, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what size piping to use? I would have thought the thinner the better, so that it dosent interfere with the blind being pulled up, I was even thinking of using blind cord, but would that be too thin do you think?

    Thanks for any advice.

I think blind cord would work, but otherwise a pliable piping cord, not too stiff.

Just one more question on the "micro piping". Is it still necessary to cut the binding on the bias? Or could the cord just be bound with a vertical peice of fabric? Just thinking that it dosent have to go round any corners, just up a straight seam.

I've cut piping on the straight grain when not going round corners, but it does depend on the fabric a bit, you can get a smoother finish on the bias with some fabrics.

Penny when you use blind cord to make up micro piping what size piping foot do you use on the sewing machine?

We don't use a piping foot Lizzie we use a hinged zipper foot.

                    Hi Lizzie

I have finally got round to taking that photo you wanted. A hinged zipper foot we have one of each left and right. They just offer a little bit more flexibility to get that bit closer to the piping. When I was at fashion college this was all that was used for piping so have never really used a piping foot.
