  • SWAGS ON A POLE and CHUNKY BRACKETS

    Hi all,

    Need some advise.

I have finally got time to make a window treatment for my living room, and have settled on swag & tails on a pole. Now I have these in my hallway and didn't have a problem as they are on metal poles.

The pole I am using for my living room is a 50m wood one, and I fear the brackets being quite chunky, may show and look lumpy under the end swags. I had an idea of making a bracket out of wood which would also be useful for the returns on the tails. But as the pole is very heavy, I am afraid it will not have enough support. I've seen the metal ones on M&D, but wondered if anyone else had been there, done that & got the T shirt!

    Hi Bev,

Mum was telling me of a window treatment she'd seen in a book. They had padded and covered the pole in some really opulent fabric the co ordinate with the swagged valance. In doing so, they had totally disguised the chunky brackets as the pole ended up being as fat as them. She thought it was stunning and is bringing the book over next week. If you want me to, I'll try to get more info when I've seen the photos.

      Hi Jules,

I would appreciate a photo of this pole as it sounds really nice and might be a good Idea for future jobs, but I have spent quite a bit of time getting the right colour so I would rather ' show it off ' if you know what I mean.

      Thanks

        Hi Bev,

        Yes I do.

You must be able to get neat metal brackets to take a 50mm pole and they would be as strong, if not stronger than the wooden brackets. If you can't source them, there is a company called 'Jim Lawrence' something or other (easy to find through a google search) who will sell/make brackets as sep items. Might be worth a try.

Bev, dont go to Jim Lawrence, they are sooooo expensive.

The company I use for specialist poles ( and if anyone knows they know!) is Hunter hyland

            http://www.hunterandhyland.co.uk/

You can buy from them in component form and on a COD pro forma
