  • When to do a closed hem?

I am making some heavy curtains for a chalet that are lined only. Some pairs are for doors so I was thinking I would sew the hem all the way along the bottom. Just wondered what everyone‘s view was on when to close the hem? Do I still need to interlock if I am closing the hem?

    Thanks

    Hi Viny

I slip stitch hems on interlined curtains, i don't tend to with lined only curtains though I see no reason why you can't. Generally with lined only curtains I attached the lining and face fabric at the hem with a few chain stitches.

Thanks Philip. Another question if you don’t mind. I am doing a pair of curtains either side of a beam in a window. The pile on the left is 77cm and the one on the right is 97cm. What’s the best way to ensure the pleats and spaces are the same for both?!

      Thanks

I would say the curtain on the right would need more pleats - You will need to start with the smaller curtains and add additional pleats to the larger curtain and jig them both until you get to the sizes you want.
