  • Work From Home Wisdom

Judy HeminsleyHi, I’m Judy Heminsley, and I’m here because I met Tamsin online when she won the competition for the best comment on blog posts during Garden Office Week on my blog workfromhomewisdom.com.

She wrote about her move from commercial premises to a ‘rather glamorous shed at the top of my garden’, describing the good and less good points of the change and why she is now totally happy with her lifestyle. All very useful information for other home workers thinking of relocating to the garden!

I’ve worked from home for over 20 years, firstly running my own cleaning business and later working as a business adviser. My book Work from Home shares many of my own experiences of home working, and those of home workers of all kinds. The idea behind it was to help new home workers avoid having to re-invent the wheel, and to give more experienced ones some tips to be more productive and happy working from home.

I set up the blog soon after the book was published as a way of keeping information current, and it’s regularly mentioned in the national press and specialist publications. And what a lot of changes there have been!

Jelly and coworking didn’t exist when I wrote the book, and now they are all over the UK. I was a pioneer of Jelly, and there’s a section of the blog dedicated to what it is and what to do there, plus my very detailed How to Start Your Own Jelly Guide if you want to set up your own group.

I work one-to-one with stuck home workers to help them see the wood from the trees. It’s easy to lose perspective when you live and work in the same place, and I can provide an objective ear when family and friends may have their own agenda and opinions about what you should do!

ID:	129368We often talk about what we do, but very rarely talk to anyone about how we work from home, and just getting a few pet peeves off your chest can help a lot! People move on very quickly after a Work from Home Success Review with me on the phone or Skype.

I’ve also developed an online program you can go through in your own time, with modules covering everything from setting up your home office and developing a routine that suits your personality and circumstances, to making sure you stay motivated and don’t get isolated.

Come and see me and other home workers at workfromhomewisdom.com, to pick up some inspiration and information, and share your own - I’m always looking for home workers to share their stories and expertise, whether it be in the form of interviews, guest blog posts or photos of your home office. You never know who you might encourage on a bad day!
