    Bolsters with tassels....

ID has asked for bolsters with tassels attached each end. They will have zips along the long edge and gathered ends.....any suggestions for the best way to attach the tassels neatly? Should I be thinking of covered buttons or some sort of fabric disc to cover the gathered centre and then attach the tassel to that?

    Thanks in advance.

If you use a button you can cut the loop of the tassel in half and thread the two ends through the sewing holes in the button. You can buy tassels with rosettes, the image is a Troynorth Princess rosette, and you can make the rosettes yourself, although they are fiddly! I'm sure you know it's a good idea to sew rosettes or buttons on right through the bolster with linen twine, using a mattress needle, that way they stay attached.

Thanks Pen - liking the buttohole plan as I think the ID wants the cord from the tassel left quite long so threading it through the buttonholes would make it secure. I have some strong twine somewhere from a previous job - thanks for the reminder.

I'm assuming the cover cant be removed for dry cleaning if secured by the long twine through the bolster?

No it can't, unless you remove the tassels, but I wouldn't recommend dry cleaning it with trims on anyway.

thanks Sue - great tip to put the thread for the buttons through the cushion before putting the cover on!
